“Food is our common ground...”
~ James Beard
We’re proud to announce starting in December 2024, we at Nonsuch will launch a Meal Share program where select items from our taproom menu generate a donation (from us) to Main Street Project (MSP).
How it Works
Look for the heart/fork symbol above next to an item on our menu next time you’re dining in our taproom, order the item, and we’ll make a donation to Main Street Project. Our menu item will be rotating throughout the year; we’ll be starting with our signature crowd-pleasing favourite, Chips avec Dip.
Why Main Street Project?
Our brewery was founded with the dream of seeing our fellow Manitobans flourish in every aspect of life. From our position of privilege, ‘flourishing’ most often means enjoying Winnipeg’s blossoming food and beverage culture, enriching our lives through art, basking in the sunshine, living with joie de vivre, and making special moments.
While we naturally gravitate towards notions of positivity and optimism we can’t ignore the most vulnerable and desperate members of our community. That’s why Main Street Project is Nonsuch’s primary philanthropic beneficiary – MSP supports those in our neighbourhood with immediate, undeniable, critical, basic human needs.
About Main Street Project
Serving the needs of Winnipeg’s most vulnerable residents since 1972, Main Street Project offers programming and services to help our community members build stability. Working under a housing first philosophy, they work with each individual to support positive changes and transition them towards stable, permanent housing.
Emergency Shelters – MSP’s emergency shelter provides over 500 meals daily. Access to food plays a crucial role in restoring dignity, creating a sense of safety, and stabilizing individuals during a highly vulnerable time in their lives. When people aren’t constantly facing hunger, they are better equipped to access other supports through MSP, such as case management, withdrawal management services, or housing, and begin to plan for their future.
Mainstay Residence Transitional Housing – Access to food remains a cornerstone of support in MSP’s Mainstay Residence transitional housing and The Bell supportive housing programs. Without proper nutrition, participants in these programs may struggle to focus on their goals, such as reconnecting with family, seeking volunteer opportunities or employment, accessing housing, continuing education, or seeking support for substance use issues.
Mobile Outreach Program – MSP provides several hundred sandwiches daily through its mobile outreach program. Outreach to people living in encampments often begins with food provision to build trust and engagement with individuals, as it is a non-threatening way to open lines of communication, allowing outreach workers to connect people with critical resources like healthcare, mental health services, and housing programs. By providing food through outreach, MSP builds trusting relationships that may lead to long-term solutions, including housing.
Food Bank – Main Street Project also operates a weekly food bank, which relies entirely on volunteers and donations to support the food and nutrition needs of approximately 600 individuals and families each month.

“Main Street Project is deeply grateful for your support of the Nonsuch meal share program through your purchase. This contribution directly impacts the lives of individuals and families in need, ensuring they receive nutritious meals during challenging times. Every purchase helps MSP continue providing food to those who are struggling, whether they are experiencing homelessness, living in transitional housing, or facing food insecurity in the community. Your generosity feeds the body and uplifts the spirit, offering hope and kindness to those who most need it. Thank you for making a difference!”
